What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers, also called porcelain veneers, are wafer-thin shells of porcelain which get bonded to the front surface of your teeth to improve the appearance of your smile. They are very versatile and can address a variety of aesthetic flaws, including:

  • Chips and cracks
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Unevenly sized or shaped teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Stained or discolored teeth that are not responsive to tooth whitening
  • Worn down teeth

Hoboken cosmetic dentist Dr. Frank DePaola regularly recommends dental veneers as a stand-alone procedure or as part of a smile makeover.

What is the dental veneers procedure like?

Your dental veneers procedure can be completed in just two visits to our Hoboken cosmetic dentistry office. At your first visit, Dr. Frank will prepare your teeth by removing a small amount of tooth structure to create an ideal bonding surface. Next, an impression of your teeth is taken and sent to the dental lab for use in the creation of your veneers. Dr. Frank will provide you with temporary veneers while you wait for your final restoration to be completed.

Once your dental veneers have been constructed, you will return to our office so that Dr. Frank can bond them to the surface of your teeth. He will make sure that your veneers fit properly and match the color of your adjacent teeth at this time.

Do I have to worry about my dental veneers breaking?

No. Dental porcelain is highly durable, especially after it is bonded to your teeth. As a result, your dental veneers will not crack or break from normal daily use. However, to ensure that your veneers last as long as possible, you should care for them as you would your normal teeth and avoid biting down on unreasonably hard surfaces.

How long will my dental veneers last?

With proper care, your dental veneers can last between 10-15 years. You should care for your dental veneers by brushing twice a day and flossing once a day. It is also important to come to our office twice a year for your regularly scheduled dental cleanings to prevent the development of tooth decay and other issues which may impact the durability of your veneers. If you grind your teeth at night, you may want to consider wearing a night guard to protect your veneers from chipping while you sleep.

Will my dental veneers be covered by insurance?

As with most cosmetic dentistry procedures, dental veneers are generally not covered by insurance since it is considered an elective treatment. At The Practice at Maxwell Place, we believe that a beautiful smile should be affordable for everyone. As a result, we offer a variety of financing options to help you fit your dental veneers procedure into your budget.
