Sedation Dentistry

General & Cosmetic Dentist serving Hoboken, Jersey City & Hudson County areas of New Jersey

Have you been putting off important dental procedures due to fear or anxiety about going to the dentist’s office? If so, you are not alone. Millions of Americans experience dental anxiety for a variety of reasons. Unfortunately, avoiding dental treatments can lead to serious oral health issues down the road that may require much more extensive, expensive, and potentially painful procedures than would be necessary if you visit our office for your routine dental treatments.

At The Practice at Maxwell Place, we are very sensitive to the dental fears experienced by many of our patients, and we work hard to ensure that you enjoy a comfortable, relaxed experience when you visit our Hoboken dental office. To achieve this, we offer a variety of sedation dentistry services to make you feel completely at ease during your procedure. Please call 201-792-9400 today to schedule your consultation.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is a safe and easy way to help you relax during your dental procedure. It involves the use of medication to place you in a relaxed state while you are in the dentist’s chair. At your initial consultation, Hoboken sedation dentist Dr. Frank DePaola will explain your options in detail and recommend the ideal sedation method to address your needs.

Benefits of sedation dentistry include:

  • Allows you to complete multiple procedures at once, reducing your number of trips to the dentist’s office
  • Patients who have trouble getting numb can enjoy a comfortable, relaxed experience
  • Relief from anxiety associated with dental treatments

Sedation Dentistry Services Offered

All of our sedation dentists have undergone extensive training in this field of dentistry and are members of DOCS (Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation); a professional organization dedicated to educating dentists on the safest and most effective sedation dentistry methods. We have an anesthesiologist, Dr. Atlas, on staff who works closely with our dentists to ensure you receive the highest quality sedation dentistry care.Dr. Atlas - Hoboken Sedation Dentist

We offer three types of dental sedation:

  • Nitrous oxide gas
  • Oral conscious sedation
  • IV sedation

We also offer NuCalm® for patients who prefer an all-natural sedation dentistry alternative.

Nitrous oxide gas is administered to place you in a relaxed state. Our dentists can control your level of sedation by adjusting the amount of nitrous oxide gas you receive. The effects wear off quickly, so you will be able to drive yourself home after your appointment.

Oral conscious sedation is the most common form of sedation used at our Hoboken cosmetic dentistry office. You will take a pill shortly before your procedure which will place you in a relaxed, semi-conscious state. You will remain awake during your procedure and can communicate with Dr. Frank, but you will most likely have no recollection of the procedure when it is complete. You will simply feel relaxed and refreshed. It is important to have someone to drive you home if you choose oral conscious sedation.

IV sedation is generally reserved for more complicated procedures or for patients who are undergoing multiple procedures at once. Your sedation medication will be administered intravenously, enabling it to take effect quickly. Our anesthesiologist, Dr. Atlas, will continually monitor you while you are under IV sedation to ensure optimum levels of safety.
