Implant Placement and Osseointegration
The first phase of your procedure involves the placement of your dental implant. Hoboken implant dentistry. Our dentists and our Oral Surgeon, Dr. Fay, use 3D imaging for all dental implant cases to minimize risk and increase predictability. This allows for the virtual placement of your dental implant prior to the procedure.
You must have adequate jawbone density to support the dental implant. If you do not, Dr. Fay may have to perform a bone graft before moving forward with the procedure. At your initial evaluation, our dentists and/or oral surgeon will inform you as to whether a bone graft will be necessary as part of your procedure.
Drs. Fay and McCleaster will insert the dental implant, made of a small titanium screw, into your jawbone. As you heal, the implant will fuse with your jawbone, forming a highly stable permanent replacement root. This process, called osseointegration, can take between three and six months to complete.
Creation of your Prosthetic Tooth
Once osseointegration is complete, you will return to our office and Dr. DePaola will attach a small titanium rod, called an abutment, to your dental implant. This abutment will be used to hold your new prosthetic tooth in place.
Dr. DePaola will then take a scan of your teeth and create a model of your bite which is sent to the dental lab for use in the construction of your prosthetic tooth. Only the finest dental porcelain is used in creation of the dental crown that will become your artificial tooth. It will be custom crafted to look just like your natural teeth and blend in seamlessly with your smile.
When your crown has been constructed, you will return to our Hoboken cosmetic dentistry office and Dr. DePaola will place it on the abutment.
