Porcelain inlays and onlays are an effective solution to address mild to moderate tooth decay. They are larger than dental fillings, but smaller than dental crowns. If your tooth decay is extensive enough to result in tooth fracture, dental fillings may damage the structural integrity of the tooth. Porcelain inlays and onlays will restore the strength and functionality of your tooth while preserving more natural tooth structure than a dental crown.
Your porcelain inlays and onlays will be custom-made from impressions of your prepared tooth. Hoboken general dentist Dr. Frank DePaola uses composite and ceramic materials for all porcelain inlays and onlays in order to deliver a beautiful, natural looking result. Your restoration will blend in seamlessly with your smile and with proper care, it will last for many years. Please call 201-792-9400 today to schedule your dental checkup.
Porcelain inlays are used to restore teeth where the decay lies within the cusp of your tooth. Dr. Frank also uses inlays to replace old metal fillings.
Your porcelain inlay can be completed in two visits to our Hoboken dental office. At your first visit, Dr. Frank will prepare your tooth and take an impression of it to be used by the lab in the construction of your inlay. A temporary inlay will be placed until the permanent restoration is completed. Once the lab has crafted your permanent inlay, you will return to our office and Dr. Frank will place it on your tooth.
Porcelain onlays are used when the decay extends beyond one cusp of your tooth. The placement of porcelain onlays is similar to the procedure used for inlays. On your first visit to our Hoboken dental office, Dr. Frank will take an impression of the prepared tooth and place a temporary onlay for protection. Once the lab has crafted your permanent onlay, you will return to our office so that Dr. Frank can place it securely on your tooth.
Your porcelain inlays and onlays are made from the finest ceramic and composite materials available. These restorations will be custom-crafted to match the unique grooves of your teeth and the shade will be matched to the color of your natural teeth.
