What is the Dexis CariVu?
Cavities must be positively identified before they can be removed and replaced with a dental filling. For decades, dentists have relied on a combination of visual examination and X-ray imaging to detect cavities. The CariVu device from Dexis brings cavity identification into the twenty-first century with its patented transillumination technology.
CariVu slips over a tooth and envelops it with safe light in the near-infrared spectrum. Your tooth enamel reflects the light back to the device’s imaging lens, while decayed areas absorb the light. This allows Dr. Frank to look right through the structure of the tooth and identify cavities with amazing precision.
When combined with regular dental checkups, CariVu lets Dr. Frank identify potential issues before they have a chance to progress too far.
Benefits of Dexis CariVu
Whenever possible, Dr. Frank prefers to combine CariVu and X-ray images to achieve the best possible picture of your teeth, but CariVu is an excellent imaging alternative for patients who do not wish to undergo X-ray photography. The amount of radiation exposure a patient receives in a typical X-ray is similar to what one experiences in a cross-country commercial flight, but some patients remain cautious. Because CariVu relies upon near-infrared wavelengths of light, there are no X-rays to worry about.
Advantages of Dexis CariVu technology include:
- No exposure to X-ray radiation
- Instantaneous imaging
- Crisp and clear clinical images
- Fast and simple cavity detection
We’re pleased to be able to offer this impressive technology to our Hoboken and Jersey City patients.
