Temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMJ, is a disorder caused by damage to the joint that connects the jawbone and skull, called the temporomandibular joint. The joint is in front of the ear and pain from TMJ can be in the face, ears, eyes, or neck.
The symptoms of TMJ are diverse and painful, and they include:
- Jaw pain near the temporomandibular joint. The joint may also feel stiff or tight.
- Jaw popping or clicking.
- A cracking sound in the ears accompanied by pain. Ears may also have a sense of fullness.
- Pain radiating to the neck, base of tongue, cheeks, chin, or shoulders. Headaches and earaches may also occur.
- A feeling of vertigo or dizziness.
- An uneven bite.
If you are having consistent pain or tenderness associated with these symptoms, it is time to get evaluated by a professional. Dr. Frank utilizes the most advanced technology to make a TMJ diagnosis.
