Many people who need orthodontic work put it off for a variety of reasons. Adults and teenagers alike who need corrective dental work often avoid it for fear of discomfort or embarrassment.

Braces and retainers can be clunky, uncomfortable, unattractive, and they come with a list of rules and regulations. The Hoboken, New Jersey, dentists at Frank R. DePaola DDS & Associates know that orthodontics don’t have to be unsightly and uncomfortable; that’s why we offer Invisalign.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is highly effective in treating a wide range of minor to moderate bite conditions and teeth spacing problems. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign works without brackets and wires, which can irritate your mouth and trap food particles that can contribute to plaque accumulation.

Invisalign also eliminates the need for painful tightenings and adjustments associated with metal braces. Invisalign consists of a series of custom-made, clear plastic aligners that change on your own.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign offers a modern approach to orthodontics, one that takes into mind the users’ comfort and social sensibilities.

Unlike bulky metal braces, Invisalign aligners are made from a smooth, virtually invisible plastic that fit snugly and comfortably over your teeth. The lack of visible evidence with this unique orthodontic method allows for a level of discretion previously unheard of in corrective dental work.

Despite its innovative approach, Invisalign works in a fairly simple and straightforward process. Your orthodontist will create a series of aligners custom made to correct your unique condition. The aligners are designed with slight changes to progressively shift your teeth into the desired position.

All you have to do is replace your aligners every two weeks or so. Your follow-up visits are limited and are designed to monitor your progress. For more information about Invisalign, please see our Questions about Invisalign page.
