After your dental implants are placed, the body reacts with a process called osseointegration. Through this natural process, your dental implants will become permanently embedded in the jaw and will be the closest thing you can get to a real root for a replacement tooth. Many of the benefits of dental implants are a direct result of osseointegration.

Osseointegration takes place through the same natural processes as when your body is healing from a bone fracture. While osseointegration is most often discussed with regard to dental implants, the process also plays an important role in other reconstructive procedures that involve prosthetics, like joint replacement and facial reconstructions.

Dental implants are designed to aid in the osseointegration process. The implant is shaped to take advantage of the process for a permanent and secure bond so that the implant is fused to the jaw bone. The process of osseointegration can take between three and six months. Once the process is complete, Dr. Frank will attach the abutment and dental crown, completing the dental implant procedure.
