Gum disease is one of the most common oral health conditions impacting Americans. It’s important to be aware of the symptoms of gum disease in order to catch the condition early. Once gum disease reaches the advanced stage of periodontitis, you may run the risk of tooth loss.

Often, there are very few gum disease symptoms in the early stages, called gingivitis. However, as gum disease progresses to more advanced stages, you may experience a variety of symptoms, including:

  • Bleeding gums, particularly after brushing your teeth
  • Chronic bad breath
  • Red, tender, or swollen gums
  • Deep pockets between your teeth and gums
  • Receding gum line
  • Changes in the way your teeth align when biting
  • Loose or shifting teeth

During your regularly scheduled checkups at our Jersey City dental office, Dr. Frank will carefully examine the condition of your gums for any signs of gum disease. If he detects any symptoms, he will recommend a periodontal treatment plan to stem the progression of the condition and restore healthy gums.
