You’ve been told from a very young age that it’s important to brush your teeth at least two times a day and floss at least once. But even if you adhere to these rules, you might not be using the correct technique to brush your teeth. If you are not brushing your teeth properly, you are leaving yourself more susceptible to tooth decay and gum disease. During your next regular dental appointment, make sure to ask Dr. Frank for tips on how to properly brush your teeth.

Follow these recommendations on how to brush your teeth using the correct technique:

  • Angle your toothbrush at a 45 degree angle to the gums
  • Use gentle back-and-forth strokes
  • Make sure to brush all surface areas on the teeth — outer, inner and top
  • Don’t forget to brush the inside surfaces of the teeth
  • Brush your tongue

Additionally, you should use a toothbrush with soft bristles, replace your toothbrush with a new one every three months, and use a toothpaste that includes ADA-accepted fluoride. It’s also important to visit Dr. Frank twice a year for a professional teeth cleaning and dental check-up. These appointments will ensure built up plaque and tartar is removed, and it will allow Dr. Frank to identify any oral health issues in their early stages.
