Root canal: the term has become an almost universal symbol of all that is painful and inconvenient. But that was yesterday. Today’s root canals are more effective, more convenient, and more comfortable than ever. And recovery is surprisingly simple. If you suffer from an infected tooth, Dr. Frank can perform a root canal to restore your teeth and gums to excellent condition.

In a root canal procedure, Dr. Frank uses the latest dental technology to remove damaged nerve and pulp tissue from the affected area, clean out the infection, and seal the tooth to prevent additional problems down the road. Most importantly, a root canal is your best insurance against losing a natural tooth to infection.

While the procedure itself is relatively painless, it’s likely that you’ll experience some tenderness in the treated tooth and in your jaw for up to a week while you heal. Here are some things to keep in mind.

  • Over-the-counter pain medication is effective for most patients, but in some cases we may prescribe painkillers to keep you comfortable.
  • Don’t chew with the treated tooth until instructed. Dr. Frank will let you know when it’s safe to eat and drink normally.
  • Brush and floss. Good oral hygiene remains important.
  • Report any abnormally severe swelling, pain, or pressure to Dr. Frank right away, as it may indicate an allergy or a very rare secondary infection.

If you are suffering from an infected tooth, don’t prolong the pain any longer. To schedule your root canal appointment, please contact the Practice at Maxwell Place today. Dr. Frank serves patients in Jersey City, New Jersey.
